Le re comiendo este libro a todos aquellos interesados en conocer diferentes formas de interpretar el mundo de lo político, y aún de interpretar el mundo en general. Con la presentación de los enfoques,con fortalezas y debilidades, de 5 autores heterodoxos, el lector podrá enriquecer su visión e interpretación de los acontecimientos.

Me gusto porque conocí someramente las vicisitudes y trabajos de cinco autores que versan sobre lo político y/o el Estado. Disfruté particularmente los capítulos sobre Oakeshott, Berlín y Bobbio. Los otros dos son interesantes, pero no de mi total interés.

Angeline Fortin is the author of historical and time-travel romance offering her readers a fun, sexy and often touching tales of romance. the perfect question

As always this author brings you right into the story. You love the characters and the history. You find yourself there watching and listening to the characters and wishing you could interact with them. They become alive and a piece of scotlands history is right in front of you. Her books made me purschase history books on scotland and I found a love for another land and its history.

You must read The Perfect Question and go on to finish the entire story of the 4 girls that met in school as teens.

The Perfect Question is a lovely story of a woman who was raised to know her own mind, listen to her own feelings but also forced into an arranged marriage that didn't make her happy. It tells of a special moment when she meets the special man of her dreams and they fall in love. He, however, has already entered into his family's choice for him and they were forced to part. They both lived the love they felt, even if only a very short time.
You will be intrigued, you will love and hate the characters, you will laugh but you must read this installment of the story of the 4 young ladies that love and support eachother through their most trying times.

A QUESTION OF LOVE

The characters were charming but they could have been better developed. There were parts of the story that were left unsaid that made you feel the story was not complete. The book was not well edited and I had to go back several time to figure out what the author was trying to say. Otherwise it was a cute story about love. I would read the other books just to see what happened with the other characters.

Alex Capus offers everything a discerning reader wants from a novel

"Leon and Louise" is an insightful look into varieties of love and loyalty and, like Alex Campus' "A Moment in Time" and "Sailing by Starlight," it gives the reader a personal sense of history--of being there. I think it will make a very good movie, but no movie could convey Alex Campus' writing, which always has depth, wit, and fascinating details. (Here I have to say I've always read his books only in translation--two in English by John Brownjohn, one in Spanish by a translator whose name I can't remember.)
I wouldn't describe "Leon & Louis" as a beach read like, say "Bridges of Madison Country," to which it could be favorably compared, because I think it's more provocative and more artfully written than that usually implies. "Leon & Louise" offers and demands more. Yes, it's a story of the love that endures between Leon and Louise, but it's also about the love between Leon and his wife Yvonne. In addition to the love theme, there's an exploration of loyalty and honor in a marriage and in an extra-marital relationship as well as on the job and in a city (Paris) occupied (by the Nazis in World War II). It's about family in the universal sense but depicts one with unique characteristics. (I love the Le Galls!) It's about the vicissitudes of marriage As if that's not enough, it relates to the friendships we have with people we see only in passing like the concierge and the street beggar we get to know and care about as Leon does, and we also benefit from his awareness of the humanity involved in every exchange with these people we sometimes finally get to know. The book also poses some very compelling questions: How does our romantic past affect our present reality? Do some star-crossed lovers benefit from their frustration and all they imagine might have been? Should a wife encourage her husband to find the woman he once loved and lost? And how about the very broad but essential question(s): What sustains love and what matters in our lives?
These are all questions Alex Capus raises in a very artful way. But here is one question specific to "Leon & Louise" that I'm still wondering about: Why did Louise remain a stranger to Leon's family--even when loyalty to his wife would not have been compromised? The questions a reader continues to consider show the power of this book.

An additional comment, directed at Audible.com: Please let us know who the translators are when you describe the book online and when the book is recorded (as I hope this one will be). Every recording should begin with the title of the book, the author, the translator (if it's not in the language of the original), and the reader. Why is this so often omitted. I've compared translations, so I know translators make an enormous contribution!

A delightful tale of love lost....and found

Capus captures his audience with a deliciously detailed narrative of two young lovers who battle fate's unlucky hand to love one another. This ironic romance set in war ravaged Europe in the early part of the twentieth century reaches beyond its setting to clasp its reader into its timeless themes. The characters are bold and three dimensional, wicked and bursting with color. Definitely storytellers' story.

A Pleasant Romance of Two Wars

I selected this from a Frankfurt Book Fair list of three dozen outstanding German-language fiction titles available in English. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but two things surprised me: first, that it was considered weighty enough to stand beside books by Jenny Erpenbeck, Julia Franck, Daniel Kehlmann, Eugen Ruge, and Peter Stamm; and second, that such a French book should have been written in German. But not by a German, admittedly. Alex Capus is a Swiss author writing in German (fluently translated here by John Brownjohn), but his action is entirely set in France, in Normandy at first, and then in Paris, both very well imagined (but see first comment). The story takes in two World Wars, beginning in 1918 and ending in 1986. A BBC review excerpted on the back cover calls it "a beautiful love story," and so it is, though not entirely in the way you might think. There is also an excerpt from The Independent, reviewing another Capus novel: "Flowing, charming, but mischievous, the story slips past like a tantalizing vision." Apt words here too.

The novel begins with Léon Le Gall, a teenage boy working in the railway station in a small town in northern France, meeting Louise Janvier, a self-reliant orphan working for the town's lecherous mayor. Cycling home from their one weekend together, they are caught in the last German offensive of the war, in which each believes the other has been killed. Not so, of course, but it will be a dozen years before they find each other again, and even longer before they are finally reunited, at the end of the Second World War. Léon, meanwhile, has married and started a family; the novel is narrated by one of the several grandchildren at his funeral. Of course we expect one of those grand adulterous romances that span the decades, with the lovers hoarding their passion for a few stolen hours. But thanks to Louise's level-headedness, Léon's honesty, and the quite extraordinary understanding of Léon's wife Yvonne, it does not turn out this way. In fact, I wonder if the phrase "a beautiful love story" does not apply at least as much to what Léon has with Yvonne?

So perhaps it is not such a surprise that this was written by a Swiss author. Instead of Flaubertian passion, we get a slightly detached comedy that is wry but gently satisfying. Similarly, we get an ordinary citizen's view of the German occupation, some episodes that move very slightly into the shadow of the Holocaust but do not darken completely,* and a fascinating sidelight on how the French Bank smuggled the national gold reserves to Africa. I was always interested and often charmed, but by the end I was looking for rather more bite.

*The most explicit Holocaust reference -- as indicative as anything of Capus' understatement and subtlety -- is a scene in a Paris metro involving a uniformed Wehrmacht soldier and a young Jew wearing a yellow star. But it is unusual in that it is the German who gives up his seat to the Jew, who takes it but hangs his head, weeping with shame.

CFL and their Cup

As a person with Canadian heritage(P.E. I), I enjoyed this book greatly. It chronicles a game that has had some rough times, especially in the shadow of the Super Bowl, but, even at it's own national importance, seems more about the game itself than about the hoopla surrounding it. To me, the Grey Cup is a symbol of class and proper honor to it's sport AND fans than our "Super" game ever could be

Grab your swords for a swash-buckling adventure!

This book is the book I've been searching for for over a year. A good old-fashioned bodice ripper, but with an actual story!!

This novel takes twists and turns, as a reader, you're taken for a bit of ride, trying to figure out where it might be going, what the answers may be. The great thing about this story, for once BOTH the hero and heroine have issues in their past. Both have demons to overcome, both are proud, both are determined to do "what's right." Both struggle with their decisions, the doubts on what they "should do," and the lives growing further and further entwined.

This novel was immensely enjoyable. I spent every free minute reading this book, and waiting for the happy ending. Waiting for two stubborn people to realize they belong together. Waiting for them to jump each other.

As someone reading romance novels for 20+ years, this story had everything I wish stories nowadays could pull off. A real story, a real dilemma, strong personalities that aren't just thrown together to try to pad out a book. And sexual attraction. Loads of it.

Ms. Cullen has brought back the "golden age" of romance novel writing, and I am a definite fan of hers, and would love to read anything past and present I can get my hands on.

Bravo!!

A Fun Story of Love on the High Seas!

She's no lady, she's a pirate! Emmaline Sutherland is the legendary and notorious pirate Lady Anne. Lady Anne is on a personal mission to destroy Blackwell Shipping to get revenge on her father who deserted her and her mother. Nicholas Addison, a former Naval officer who is returning to sea after recovering from a near fatal injury, despises pirates, naturally and thinks Lady Anne is a myth since no woman could possibly be an actual pirate. Nicholas meets Emmaline on land and finds her enchanting, oblivious to her alter ego. Emmaline is quite taken by Nicholas also but she needs to focus on getting information for her revenge mission.

Emmaline conveniently books passage on Addison's ship. Then pirates attack - only they are bad pirates but luckily Lady Anne's pirates arrive and rescue everybody because they are good pirates and they are devoted to their leader, Lady Anne or as Addison knows her, Emmaline. It's a big surprise to Nicholas and he finds himself working with the pirates and struggles with his attraction and growing admiration for Emmaline and her skilled Lady Anne persona. Emmaline, meanwhile, becomes ever more attracted to Nicholas' rugged good looks and strong ideals.

It's a unique take over most Regency romances in that most of the action takes place away from England and instead at sea and in Barbados where Lady Anne's crew is based. There's as much adventure as romance going on. The characters are both strong and not too overwhelmed with hidden angst. Emmaline/Lady Anne is a great heroine. She's strong, capable with a really unusual skill set. Nicholas is a strong moral hero who is forced to rethink his rigid attitudes, not just about pirates but also women as he becomes more and more entranced with Emmaline and her plans.

It's an action filled romance with a couple definitely worth cheering for!

Let me start off by saying I Really loved this book. I thought the characters were well written and it had a really good story line.

- Emmaline is bold and outspoken and just not like all the other ladies in London. She is secretly Lady Anne a pirate and legend of the high seas.

- Nicholas Addison is a handsome, injured (emotionally and physically ) ex British Navy officer who hates pirates.

Lady Anne was emotionally damaged by her father. She sworn to get back at him for abandoning her by hitting him where it hurts the most, in his pockets. She is trying to take out all the ships in his company. Meanwhile sea captain Nicholas Addison is hired to take his bosses daughter on what should be a routine trip across the Atlantic. But it turns out to be anything but routine. Mrs. Emmaline Sutherland reviles herself as "LADY ANNE". Now here is where the action and adventure begins. This is a story is about love, redemption, understanding, forgiving, healing, passion and Love. I really enjoyed the hero and heroin with all the romantic tension between them.

I really liked the book. I recommend to any one who like historical romances or story about pirates or just any one who want to read a good love story.
