Indian Hill is about an ordinary boy who grows up in relatively normal times but who finds himself thrust into an extraordinary position. Growing up in suburban Boston, Michael enjoys the trials and tribulations that all adolescents go through, from the seemingly tyrannical mother, to girl problems, to run-ins with the law. From there he escapes to college out in Colorado with his best friend, Paul, where they begin to forge new relationships with those around them. It is one girl in particular that has caught Michael's eye, and he alternately pines for her and laments ever meeting her.
It is on their true "first" date that things go strangely askew. This is where the story truly takes a paranormal twist. Mike soon finds himself captive aboard an alien vessel, fighting for his very survival. The aliens have devised gladiator-type games. The games are of two-fold importance for the aliens: one is their entertainment value, and the other is that the aliens want to see how combative humans are, what our weaknesses and strengths are. They want to better learn how to attack and defeat us. The battles are to the death on varying terrains that are computer-generated.
Follow Mike and Paul as they battle for their lives and try to keep the U.S. safe, in the first book of Mark Tufo's Indian Hill trilogy.

Put up with the slow beginning, 3 and 1/2 stars

The story starts slow. We get a brief glimpse of the narrator in the present, referring to a long running war. Then we quickly go back to the narrator's childhood, which drags on for much too long. I came very close to giving it up because it was boring and caused me to suspect that the "alien invasion" angle was overstated. I stuck it out, skimmed through bits, and finally got to the alien abduction of thousands of mostly college students at a concert. At this point, the book picks up as the narrator is forced to engage with gladiator games at which he finds himself surprisingly successful. The previously underachieving narrator wins match after match by the skin of his teeth, building an ever growing collection of "spoils of war" -- women also abducted from the concert -- who he, unlike most of the increasingly savage surviving contestants, treats with respect. The juxtaposition of the savage arena games with the narrator's increasingly chaotic "home" life adds humor and interesting character development. The narration is witty, insightful, and interesting. In an unusual narration technique, the focus occasionally shifts from the narrator -- who is writing his "memoirs" -- to third-person narration following one of the narrator's friends and U.S. military leaders dealing with the presence of an alien ship. For the most part, this works and sets up what is obviously going to be story lines in future books dealing with the alien invasion. The third-party narration of his friend seems a little forced, however, as it does not go very far in the present book.
I wanted to give the book four stars, but the slow beginning and lagging treatment of parts of the third-person narration resulted in 3 and 1/2 stars.

Indian Hill - Encounters

I read this book after reading Mark Tufo's Zombie Fallout and Zombie Fallout 2. I really enjoyed it, especially the gladiator scenes which were well thought out and gory in some interestingly different and unusual ways. Looking forward to more on this series. Mark Tufo's got a fan for life.

MARK DOES IT AGAIN!!!

So I am a little biased I am a huge Zombie Fallout fan and I love Mark's writing style. Indian Hill was different from ZFO and at the very beginning I was wondering where the story would go, I was not disappointed. This story was so original and from start to finish Mark pulled it off effortlessly.I just downloaded Book 2 and I cannot wait to start reading. If you are wondering if you should get this book go ahead and get it, you will not be disappointed. Then check out the Zombie Fallout series.
