Diane Wiltshire, during thirteen years in Japan, decorated the homes of numerous Japanese and Westerners, experimenting with using obi in new and exciting ways. As a buyer for East West Anitques in Mississippi, Diane visits auctions, warehouses, and shrine sales throughout Japan, always searching for unique and beautiful obi. She is perhaps best known for her guidebook, Japan for Kids.
Ann Wiltshire started her business, East West Antiques, together with her daughter Diane in 1984. Today the company carries a large selection of Japanese obi an accessories, and has an international clientele. An acknowledged expert in the field, she lectures frequently on the obi at various museums and elsewhere, and was a featured speaker at the Asian Arts and Lecture series presented by Gump's department store in San Francisco.

learn to use obi in your home

it's a great book to lead you to use obi as part of the decoration in your home. it gives you alot of ideas how to put and what you can do with obi before you display them in your home. also, it tells the different kinds of obi in design and material it is made from. actually, it gives you extra knowledge of other japanese traditional accessories; as the pictures in this book shows you how the obi goes together very well with basic things every houses have. great book.

I never thought of that!

I happened to pick this book up at a bookstore in Japan and suddenly I realized that you can do more with an obi than wear it with a kimono. As a result, everyone in my family is getting souvenir obis, and I'm excited to start using the ideas presented in the book.
Some of the ideas made me nervous--using an obi as a table runner would eventually lead to stains--but this book opened up a whole new world to me that I hadn't even considered. For that, I'm thankful.

Lots of pictures and ideas, but not detailed how to instructions

Interesting book with lots of colored pictures. I was looking for more of a specific "how to" book. For example, she talks about making gathers in fabric and fastening with a rubber band, but wasn't specific about how to do it. It's a nice book to have, but internet is probably more helpful.
