About the Author
Oge Marques, PhD, is Associate Professor in the Department of Computer & Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Florida Atlantic University. He has been teaching and doing research on image and video processing for more than twenty years, in seven different countries. Dr. Marques is the coauthor of Processamento Digital de Imagens and Content-Based Image and Video Retrieval and was editor-in-chief of the Handbook of Video Databases, a comprehensive work with contributions from more than 100 world experts in the field. He is a Senior Member of both the IEEE and the ACM.

Nice practical examples

This book starts out with a nice basic introduction, perhaps a little too basic for me, but nonetheless it began to provide many valuable examples and tutorial on basic image processing techniques. I had to learn image processing to develop my own algorithm for object tracking and recognition, with the help of this book I was able to take a combination of a half dozen or so separate approaches to develop my own approach for my specific application. It is nice that it is not entirely MATLAB focused, and they do go into some of the mathematical operations behind the filters for those interested (which I am), and then follow it up with direct MATLAB implementations. I wish it would go into some more advanced classification routines for color image processing from video, especially Kmeans classification, but otherwise it is a great book.

Great book

I am mechanical engineering major master student and need to learn image processing by myself because of research purpose. This book is definitely amazing useful.
First of all, It covers basic MATLAB commands, gives you a very good start if you never use MATLAB before. It helps you to manipulate MATLAB. Second, the book illustrates the commands of MATLAB image processing toolbox clearly. The author uses a easy-understanding language to provide enough knowledge and background in image processing. After reading this book, the MATLAB HELP and official tutorial becomes easy to understand.
It's a very very good book!
