***Review contains spoilers*** I had a lot of hope for this book. The premise was one that I love: boy and girl grow up best friends who fall in love but don't realize it (creating part of the angst). The main characters come from very difficult home lives and have had each other to lean on for about five or six years. Jake realizes his feelings for Meagan while away for the summer before their senior year. He knows any change in their relationship will scare Meagan, so he waits for her to realize her feelings for him before he shares his. Meagan is a little late to catch on, so both begin dating other people (making the other jealous). Jake also decides the only way to get out of his home life is to enlist in the Army, which further upsets Meagan.
This was a very quick read with a few formatting and grammatical errors, but I can usually overlook those if the plot is good. This book had the potential to be a really good book, but I was disappointed with the ending. It took Jake and Meagan until the end to finally get on the same page and their "reunion" is summed up in a few short pages. It felt rushed and I felt cheated. I can assume they lived happily ever after, but an epilogue or "A few years later..." at the end would have been nice.

I couldn't put it down!

This is a tender love story written with wisdom and a gentle hand. The teenagers in this book, whom the reader will come to know and care deeply about, have to find their way out of poverty through self discovery, self acceptance and finally through love. Ms. Carrington has written a novel that will uplift both young adults and grown ups alike. It is a must for every teenager who is in search of true love, and a direction for their future.

Poor editing.

Tons of typos. Decent story though if you can get past all the spelling mistakes. Nice, easy and quick read.
