My 14 week old son enjoys this book

This is not the first book I've read with my 14 week old son, so having gone through books with him I know his reaction when he finds one enjoyable. This one had him smiling and looking at the pictures while I read with him in my lap.
As a parent, I like this book. The book is in the style of "Ten Little Monkeys Jumping in the Bed" but with various dog breeds. The book helps teach counting, and has really large funny pictures with those bulging rolling eyes. At the end of the book is more information about each of the breeds discussed in the book.
I know my son will enjoy this book for years to come, and it's cute enough that I don't find it terribly annoying to read over and over again. My only complaint is with the rolling eyes. If you set the book up to read to your child the eyes stare up at the ceiling. You have to almost lay the book flat for the eyes to look straight; they should have weighted the eyes differently, which is why I'm giving it 4 stars out of 5. Overall an enjoyable book!

TEN LITTLE REASONS TO BUY THIS BOOK!

Based on the poem "Ten Little Indians", this is a charming book that is, I think, even batter than Marian Harris's classic Ten little Dinosaurs. The cover alone is inviting to children of all ages as who wouldn't love those big brown eyes? The author takes the Indian Poem and just creates a new story with different kinds of puppies. There are all kinds of dogs doing all kinds of things--using all different breeds of dogs, including my favorite the dachshunds, the dogs do some really fun things like steal cookie and hunt bears so that children will delight not only with the lyrical sound of the words but the puppy antics and the colorful, engaging illustrations done by Jim Harris. There are so many wonderful characters in the backgrounds that little ones especially will have a wonderful time "finding" all that you ask them to find. I love the book and highly recommend it.

My first thought on pulling this out of the package was, "Gee, what a clever gimmick." Referring to the large googly eyes that role around the head of the cover puppy and ten more subsequent puppies. The eyes give the book a lively feel. My four year old's eyes also went googly the first time she saw her new book. Ever since then it has been one of her favorites, and we have read it dozens of times in the past few weeks. The book reads like a hybrid of the monkey's on the bed song and the countdown aspect of ten little indians. The pictures are vivid, and fascinate my daughter. The book describes characteristics of breeds of dogs and teaches some number knowledge, and is plain fun. My only complaints are that it doesn't fit well on a shelf, and the eyes don't always match up while turning pages. I guess it is the price we play to be googled at.
