About the Author
Hans Holzer, whose investigations into the paranormal took him to haunted houses and other sites all over the world, wrote more than 140 books on ghosts, the afterlife, witchcraft, extraterrestrial beings, and other phenomena associated with the realm he called “the other side.” Among his famous subjects was the Long Island house that inspired The Amityville Horror book and film adaptations. Holzer studied at the University of Vienna, Austria, and at Columbia University, New York, earning a master’s degree in comparative religion. He taught parapsychology at the New York Institute of Technology. Holzer died in 2009.

True stories of Haunted Places

For anyone interested in the paranormal Hans Holzer is, in my opinion, required reading. He has his own particular theories and beliefs about the broad topic. I am never disappointed reading one of his books.

Interesting read

I could compare "Haunted Places: True Encounters with the World Beyond" with "A Haunting", a paranormal TV series which I used to watch from time to time on Discovery Channel. This book contains several stories about haunted places which the author visited alone or with a psychic friend of his.
The author described very well the locations and he also presented the history of all those places as well as people's experiences, their encounter with ghosts. Even though the provided information was interesting in most of the stories, some of them contained too much history and tended to be quite boring.
What I liked:
-Some of the stories were quite spooky.
-In several cases, the author presented the identities of the ghosts.
What I didn't like:
-The history parts were boring sometimes.
-I wish certain locations were analyzed in more depth.
-Some of the stories were accompanied by photos, but I wish more of them were included for us to be able to see the haunted locations.
All in all, I found this book interesting and I will continue to read more books written by Hans Holzer.

Haunted Places, True Encounters With The World Beyond

It really does not get better than H. Holzer. He was definitely a leader in the paranormal investigative field. I have always found his books totally believable, and his style of writing remains entertaining and informative. It really was rewarding when they succeeded, but whether or not he, Mrs H, or one of the number of Mediums he worked with assisted a troubled spirit to attain peace, they brought a level of hope / peace of mind to his client.
